With housing prices in Amsterdam rising sharply, many young families struggle to find homes that offer sufficient space at an affordable price. Our proposal responds to this challenge with compact and affordable yet generous, flexible homes, designed to accommodate young couples as well as growing families.
The building consists of compact maisonettes ranging from 60 to 75 m², each with a double-height balcony. The lower level is dedicated to living, while the upper level accommodates sleeping. Despite their limited floor area, the apartments feel remarkably spacious. Rather than being contained within separate rooms, the ‘serving’ functions—such as the kitchen, bathroom and toilet—are integrated into the walls and edges of the living spaces. This leaves the main spaces open and loft-like, while allowing residents to subdivide them over time with flexible partitions as their needs change.
